Mfangano Island Lodge

Who we are

Mfangano Island Lodge was opened in January 1991 by Aristotle and Romi Grammaticas the owners of the prestigious Governors’ Camp, Africa’s first Luxury Tented Camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara.

With great passion, a love for nature and a good eye for detail, the Grammaticas family invested much time & energy to make Mfangano Island Lodge into a little corner of a paradise.

Indeed, when in 2003, Robert Francu, the owner of Kananga, arrived at the lodge with his wife Sabrina, they both fell in love with this very special place, never for one moment imagining that one day they would be the owners.

After sending hundreds of clients to the lodge over the last ten years, their dream has come true and Kananga is now the very proud owner of this unique and stunning island lodge.

Kananga has specialised in safaris and adventure travel throughout Africa since 1992. At present, the company operates in 35 African countries, with the majority of our clients travelling in East & Southern Africa.

With offices in Arusha, Tanzania and Barcelona, Spain, we also run two tented camps:

In addition to the tented camps, we possess a fleet of 23 Overland trucks and half a dozen specially converted Land Cruisers.
